| Location: South Africa » Western Cape » Cape Town » Glencairn The coastal farm Elsebaai was bought in 1901 by a group of business men, all Scotsman, who formed the Glencairn syndicate, so named because of a pile of stones, or ‘cairn’, found at the upper end of the glen. ATTRACTIONS Beaches The beach is pleasant, and has a large tidal pool. The waves are ideal for surfing. In spring and summer times local fishermen can be seen trekking for haarders and yellowtail. Scratch Patch and Mineral World At the scratch patch visitors can fill a bag with their favourite gemstones from the hundreds of thousands of specimens that literally cover the floor. The new Mineral World gemstone shop offers a wide range of gemstone items, ranging from one of a kind art pieces to inexpensive gift items. Both these attractions are located at the Topstones site on Dido Valley Road where the world’s largest gemstone tumbling factory can also be visited.
