Zinkwazi in KwaZulu Natal offer great surfing and a pristine

This subtropical paradise lies at the mouth of the Zinkwazi river, which forms a lagoon - seven kilometres in length - and only reaches the sea for a shorter period during the rainy season. The name Zinkwazi means "Place of the Fish Eagle" in Zulu. And indeed, still today, many of these majestic birds of prey live at the lagoon which is seamed by dense, evergreen coastal forests. The lagoon with its clean water is particularly rich in small fish and crabs. That is why Zinkwazi is a bird paradise. More than 250 species were registered here, amongst them many Kingfisher varieties, the Purple Crested Lourie, very popular in KwaZulu-Natal, or the gifted Natal Robin, which is able to perfectly imitate the call of the African Fish Eagle. While the quiet lagoon is a pleasure for nature lovers and fishermen, the wide beach of Zinkwazi offers a roaring surf and ideal conditions für surfers and swimmers.

The beauty of the subtropical paradise of Zinkwazi lies in it’s unique setting between the lagoon and the golden beach. The seemingly endless stretch of coastline is home to a large variety of marine creatures and birdlife, while the lagoon offers canoeing and a number of hiking trails through the lush dune vegetation
